en voila un à qui il en est arrivé de belles à ce sujet, c'est à Tampa, Floride

French pilot took off from Brooksville despite instructor's advice


A small plane forced down by military jets after it took off from a Brooksville airport on Wednesday afternoon was not stolen and the pilot, a French citizen, broke no laws, authorities said.

The owner and pilot of the Cessna 425, identified as Jean-Claude Courtois, was licensed to operate the aircraft, Hernando County sheriff's spokeswoman Sgt. Donna Black said.

A certified instructor with the pilot suggested he should contact another instructor to improve certain flying skills. The instructor also noted that Courtois shouldn't fly the plane because he didn't speak English and couldn't communicate with anyone on the ground or in the air, Black said.

A translator explained the instructor's suggestion to the pilot, but the pilot became indignant and took off in the plane anyway, Black said.

Courtois was licensed to fly the aircraft, but the instructor was concerned that his training might not be adequate so he notified airport officials in Tampa and Miami, according to a sheriff's office report.

Two F-15 fighter jets were sent about 3:30 p.m. to intercept the plane. The jets, which flew out of a military base at Homestead, were sent because the pilot refused to respond to air traffic controllers, said Air Force Capt. Sharbe Clark with the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD.

The Cessna landed at Everglades Jet Park in Collier County, near the Dade County line, about an hour later.

Clark said the pilot was met by local authorities but didn't know if the person was arrested.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration are continuing to investigate the incident.

Il est tres connu comme pilote, a son actif 2 pannes d'essence une en Italie en 172 (avion detruit) et une autre quand il ramenait des journalistes d'un match avec un bi moteur de nuit pour aller au bourget(avion detruit) et y a eu une blessée.

Une autre anecdocte a son sujet, il a son avion un Aztec et va tres souvent a l'ile d'yeu en revenant un jour il devait se poser a Nantes pour refueler, le controleur a la vigie lui dit "c'est etrange on dirait qui y 'a un truc qui suit dans la vent arriere", il pose son aztec va au parking et la il s'apercoit qu'il n'avait pas detaché a l'ile d'yeu le parpaing qui retenait l'avion

Il y avait quelques " vedettes " dans le genre !!
C'est d'autant plus drôle que c'etaient ceux qui parlaient le mieux d'aviation........au bar .
Certains d'entre vous ont peut être entendu parler de ce personnage qui avait posé son avion léger sur un wagon citerne dans la region parisienne......les gendarmes envoyés sur les lieux avaient fini par le retrouver dans un bistro du coin.
N'a t on pas eu le fameux " bidouille" à une epoque qui etalait ses exploits sur RCC ?
Il analysait tellement bien ( ) le crash du Concorde de Gonesse en expliquant comment il aurait fallu faire pour eviter la suite.

Tiens ! Puisqu'on parle de " vedettes ", une petite pour la route:
Il y a des siécles ( ), j'essayais de redémarrer " carrière " en France par la petite porte de l'aviation d'affaires.
Un intermediaire, bien connu sur la place du Bourget pour sa mégalomanie,avait affrêté un avion de la petite société dont j'etais un des pilotes pour aller chercher des gens qui avaient " cartonné " en Espagne pendant leurs vacances.( C'etait, je crois pour le compte de Europe Assisstance).
Ce personnage avait insisté pour que l'equipage soit en uniforme ( une petite parenthèse pour dire qu'à l'epoque le pilote portait 3 galons et le copilote 2)
Petite surprise au depart de voir notre accompagnateur affublé d'un uniforme avec 4 galons, mais le personnage nous faisant bouffer, on fait comme si rien n'était.Il y avait en plus, unemedecin anésthesiste et 2 ou 3 assistants.
Notre ami, toujours en uniforme, s'installe à l'arrière avec les toubibs et le vol s'effectue normalement à l'aller comme au retour.
Il se trouve que je suis par la suite devenu ( comment dit on ? )trés copain avec cette anésthésisteet elle m'a raconté sa conversation avec le " déguisé ".
Pas trés rassurée en avion, elle lui avait demandé pourquoi, lui qui semblait être le chef( ben oui ,4 galons !)restait dans la cabine pendant le vol.
" Oh, je fais de temps en temps des vols de contrôle pour voir si mes équipages travaillent bien "
( on m'a dit qu'il était tout de même inscrit plus ou moins dans un aeroclub...... ).

Misunderstanding Leads To F-15 Intercept

Jean-Claude Courtois bought a plane in Florida but an allegedly iffy checkride and some miscommunications saw his maiden flight shortened by a pair of F-15s. The incident began at American Aviation on Hernando County Airport in Florida, where Courtois purchased a Cessna 425. While Courtois was getting checked out in the plane, his instructor developed concerns about the Frenchman's command of English and his piloting skills. Based on those concerns, the instructor recommended to American Aviation (the plane's seller) that Courtois fly with and be re-evaluated by another instructor.

But before that could happen, the Frenchman hopped into the aircraft and departed Hernando "without (air traffic control) clearance," FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac told NaplesNews.com. Next, due to a miscommunication somewhere in the chain, a call from American Aviation to controllers along Courtois' presumed route of flight became a report of a foreigner who wasn't talking with controllers flying a stolen aircraft. Soon after, Courtois found himself putting down at Everglades Jetport at the urging of two NORAD-deployed F-15s.

Courtois' was reportedly heading from Hernando to Guadeloupe. Once on the ground, the misunderstanding started to become clear. Reached for comment by Tampa Bay Online, Hernando County Airport Director Don Silvernell lamented the misunderstanding. "It was his airplane and he left with it," Silvernell said, adding that security concerns were never an issue. Silvernell said the man was properly certificated and the whole incident was just "blown out of proportion."
