Plane makes hard landing in Titusville

No one was injured when an airplane had to make a hard landing at Arthur Dunn Airpark in Titusville this morning.

Titusville firefighters and emergency responders are on the scene, but Division Chief Scott Gaenicke said the two people on board were OK. Gaenicke said witnesses reported seeing the Beechcraft King Air twin-turbo aircraft trying to land on the grass runway, but even though the landing gear was down, there were no wheels attached.

The plane had to skid on the runway, causing extensive damage to the aircraft’s stabilizers, landing gear and fuselage, Gaenicke said. Arthur Dunn Air Park, has a 3,000-foot runway and a 1,790-foot grass landing strip. The airport is operated by the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority, which is on the scene and will investigate further.

In March, three people were killed at the airport when a plane making a quick landing collided with another exiting the runway.
